How to shape a layout in Photoshop 7
.) I have my image up, and it is already the size that I want it.
(note: this has been resized)
.) To shape the layout, first make a new layer. (shift+ctrl+n) or go to layer-new-layer.
.) make sure that you are on the new layer. Click the new layer if you aren't (The layer apears blue on the layers pallet if it is selected)
.) Use the marquee tool. I'm selecting the elliptical marquee.
.) Make sure that you have the marquee tool on add to selection.
.) On the new layer, use the Marquee tool to make shapes. Since you are using this on add to selection, when you select again with the marquee tool this new selection will be added. If you'd like to cut peices out of the selection, chance the selection to subtract from selection
.) After using this tool several times, my selection looks like this:
.) Make sure you are on the new layer
.) Click the fill tool. At the top of the screen, make sure beside fill: is on foreground, not pattern.
.) On the new layer, inside the selection use the fill tool. It should look like so:
.) Go back to the marquee tool. Click New Selection if you haven't done so already:
.) Right click anywhere on the image. Click Select Inverse.
.) click on the old layer with the image you want to shape. Press delete on your keyboard, press ctrl+x, or go to edit-cut
.) deselect, and click the eye on the layers pallet next to the layer with the shaping on it so that the eye is no longer there
.) This is what your newly shaped layout looks like
